There are a number of projects that BRT has been, or is involved in that stand out due to some special circumstance. The following examples help to demonstrate the wide range of proficiencies that BRT has in the area of project management and completion, particularly in the area of horizontal directional drilling.

Bell West / Expertech - Base Build / Supernet

Currently Ongoing

• Installing base duct systems
• Urban building entrances
• Manhole and Pullbox installations
• Majority of this work has been done using horizontal directional drilling

Telus - Ongoing Project Installing Duct and Manhole Systems

Currently Ongoing - Alberta

• Install duct systems for Telus infrastructure (including manhole placement)
• BRT has been involved with Telus (AGT) since 1989
• Installation methods include both open cut and horizontal directional drilling
• Projects range from confined urban areas (e.g. downtown Calgary) to open rural or light urban areas

Envision - Supernet Connection to Calgary Public Schools

Currently Ongoing

• Installation of fibre optic conduit, pullboxes, and manholes
• Connecting schools to the Alberta Supernet

Longhaul Drilling Projects for Bell West

Approximately 33 000 m. of conduit installed - sub-contract

• Drilling installation of long haul backbone fibre runs
• Drilling included crossing roads, utilities, railroad tracks and other areas that could not be plowed
• Majority of long haul work done in 2003 was in Northern Alberta between Edmonton and Fort Macmurray

Allstream

• Installation of large backbone fibre optic lines in Calgary (includes some design)
• 2000 Airways urban construction fibre build (3400 meters) (complete installation of duct system with manholes and cable in 19 days in winter conditions)
• 2002 Airways urban construction fibre build (6800 meters)

Calgary School Board Fibre Optic Project

Complete Duct and Fibre to 217 School Sites

• Joint project between Telus and City of Calgary School Board
• Installation of fibre optic cable into every public school in Calgary
• Urban construction - complete fibre service to 217 school sites

Enmax Underground Residential Distribution - Primary Replacement

(over three years - Calgary)

• Joint use four party trench utility distribution (serviced approx. 5500 lots between 2000 and 2003)
• Partnership between Enmax, Telus, Atco, and Shaw for delivery of utility service
• Extensive use of directional drilling on primary replacement due to tight confines of urban residential environment

ATCO Gas Residential Service Conversions

• Insertion of PE gas line from main into existing steel services
• Use of horizontal directional drilling to place new PE gas line services from main to houses
