History of BRT Construction Services Ltd.
BRT Construction Services Ltd. was established in 1989, by Tim and Brian Mack,
as a general contracting company in the construction industry. Upon commencing
operations, the company established ties with Telus, then known as AGT, with
whom Brian and Tim had dealt with for many years while with Mack Construction.
After a short period of time BRT Construction gained a reputation as specialists
in shallow utility construction. Over the years BRT has done shallow utility
construction for Telus, Bell West, Allstream, Enmax, Atco, Shaw, City of Calgary,
and numerous other private companies.
In recent years BRT has vastly advanced its capabilities in the areas of
utility construction. BRT Construction is competent in everything from the
placement of long haul backbone fibre runs to constructing duct systems in
confined or restrictive environments. During peak periods the company employs
over 50 personnel and makes use of an extensive array of equipment including
horizontal direction drills, trackhoes, backhoes, hydrovacs, and an assortment
of other specialty trucks and equipment.
Traditionally, utility construction has involved trenching and excavating
using large machinery to open up the ground. However, in 1996 BRT diversified
into the area of trenchless technology, making extensive use of horizontal
directional drilling equipment. The demand for directional drilling is growing
quickly as more organizations, engineers, and the general public become aware
of the benefits gained by this form of utility construction.
